Protect Your Vehicle's Paint with Certified PPF Installation
What Is Paint Protection Film?
Paint protection film — also known as clear bra — is a virtually invisible thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film applied to your vehicle’s exterior surfaces. This transparent urethane layer shields the factory paint from rock chips, road salt, bug splatter, bird droppings, tree sap, acid rain, and UV damage while preserving the original depth of color and showroom shine.
Canada's Certified XPEL Installation Network
At Protex, we are Canada’s certified XPEL installation network. Every PPF application is performed by trained professionals using XPEL’s Design Access Program (DAP) software, which generates precision pre-cut patterns for each vehicle make and model — eliminating the need to cut directly on your paint.

Industry-Leading Self-Healing Paint Protection
XPEL pioneered the first self-healing paint protection film in 2011. ULTIMATE PLUS™ remains the benchmark: an 8-mil-thick film with an elastomeric polymer topcoat that repairs light scratches and swirl marks when exposed to heat. Its hydrophobic surface repels water, road grime, and chemical contaminants, while delivering optical clarity and a high-gloss finish that enhances your vehicle’s appearance.
Paint Protection Meets Bold Style
XPEL COLOR delivers the same self-healing, impact-resistant protection as ULTIMATE PLUS — now available in vibrant colors. Change your vehicle’s look with a durable colored film that doubles as a full paint shield.
What Paint Protection Film Protects Against
Shielding Your Clear Coat from Chips, Scratches and UV Damage
Everyday driving puts your clear coat at risk. Paint protection film absorbs impacts and resists surface damage from a wide range of threats, including:
- Stone chips and rock chips from highway driving and gravel roads
- Scratches, swirl marks and door dings from parking lots and daily use
- Bug splatter and bird droppings that etch into unprotected paint
- Road salt, road tar and chemical contaminants that corrode the clear coat
- UV rays and sun damage that cause paint fading, discoloration and oxidation
- Tree sap, acid rain and water spots that stain and dull the finish
- Minor abrasions and insect residue from routine driving conditions
Whether your finish is gloss, matte, or satin, PPF preserves the factory paint and helps maintain your vehicle’s resale value over the long term.
Coverage Areas — Partial to Full-Body PPF Film
The scope of your PPF installation depends on where your vehicle is most vulnerable. Common coverage options include:
Partial and High-Impact Paint Protection
Hood, Bumper, Fenders and Mirror Protection
- Partial / high-impact coverage: hood, front bumper, fenders, side mirrors, door edges, door cups, and rocker panels — the areas most exposed to stone chips and road debris.
Full Front and Full-Body Film Coverage
- Full front coverage: everything above plus headlights, A-pillars, and the full hood rather than a partial section.
- Full-body PPF: every painted surface including rear bumper, trunk ledge, door panels, and quarter panels — providing complete protection for high-end, exotic, or track vehicles.
Pre-Cut Patterns with XPEL DAP Software
Protex installers use pre-cut patterns from the XPEL DAP plotter, ensuring precise fitment with tucked or wrapped edges and seamless coverage on every panel.
How Our Certified Installers Apply PPF Film
Surface Preparation, Film Application and Heat Activation
Professional installation is what separates long-lasting PPF from premature failure. At Protex, the process follows a precise sequence: the vehicle’s surfaces are decontaminated and cleaned to remove any wax, polish, or residue. Pre-cut film patterns are generated using XPEL’s DAP software and plotter — no blades touch your paint. The installer applies a slip solution, positions the film, and uses a squeegee to remove air and moisture from beneath the adhesive layer. Heat activation from a heat gun ensures the film conforms to curves and complex contours. Edges are tucked or wrapped for a seamless finish. Curing time is typically 24 to 48 hours, during which the adhesive bonds fully to the painted surface.
PPF vs. Ceramic Coating vs. Vinyl Wrap
Impact Protection, Chemical Resistance and Aesthetic Wraps Compared
Each protective option serves a different purpose.
- Paint protection film provides physical impact resistance — it absorbs stone chips, scratches, and abrasions that would otherwise damage the clear coat.
- Ceramic coating adds chemical resistance, hydrophobic water-shedding, and enhanced gloss, but it cannot prevent rock chips or physical impacts.
- Vinyl wrap changes your vehicle’s color or finish but offers minimal impact protection compared to PPF.
Combining PPF with Fusion Plus™ Ceramic Coating
For maximum defense, many vehicle owners combine PPF on high-impact zones with a ceramic coating over the entire surface. Protex offers both XPEL Stealth and Fusion Plus™ ceramic coating — our certified installers can recommend the right combination for your needs.

Caring for Your Paint Protection Film
Washing, Curing and Aftercare for Long-Lasting PPF
Proper aftercare extends the life of your PPF. Wait at least 48 hours after installation before washing to allow the adhesive to cure fully. Use a pH-neutral car soap and a soft microfibre wash mitt. Avoid touchless car washes with harsh chemical sprays during the first week. If using a pressure washer, keep the nozzle at least 30 cm (12 inches) from the film and never spray directly at the edges. Wax or sealant can be applied over PPF, but avoid abrasive polishing compounds. For stubborn contaminants like sap or tar, use an XPEL-approved aftercare product.
Frequently Asked Questions About PPF
What Does Paint Protection Film Do?
PPF is a clear, self-healing polyurethane film bonded to your vehicle’s exterior. It acts as a sacrificial barrier, absorbing rock chips, scratches, bug splatter, bird droppings, road salt, and UV exposure so the factory paint underneath stays undamaged. The film is virtually invisible and preserves the original gloss, matte, or satin finish.
How Much Does PPF Cost In Canada?
Paint protection film installation at Protex typically ranges from $500 for partial high-impact coverage (hood, bumper, mirrors) to $2,000–$5,000+ for full-body PPF. Price depends on vehicle size, film product selected, and scope of coverage. XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS with self-healing and hydrophobic properties costs more than entry-level options but includes extended warranty coverage.
How Long Does PPF Last?
Quality paint protection film installed by a certified Protex professional typically lasts 5 to 10 years. XPEL films are backed by a manufacturer warranty against defects including yellowing, cracking, peeling, and delamination. With proper care — regular washing, avoiding harsh chemicals, and prompt removal of contaminants — PPF maintains its clarity and protective performance throughout the warranty period.
Does PPF Enhance Or Reduce Shine?
Gloss PPF like XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS adds depth and optical clarity, giving the paint a wet-look shine. Matte PPF like XPEL STEALTH converts a gloss finish to satin without repainting. Neither option dulls the existing paint — both are engineered to enhance appearance while delivering full protection.
Can PPF Be Removed Without Damaging Paint?
Yes. Professional-grade paint protection film is 100% removable from factory paintwork. A certified installer uses controlled heat to soften the adhesive, then peels the film cleanly without leaving residue or affecting the clear coat underneath. This makes PPF an ideal solution for leased vehicles or owners who want to refresh their coverage after several years.
Is PPF The Same As Clear Bra?
Yes — “clear bra” is an older industry term for paint protection film. Both refer to the same transparent polyurethane film designed to shield painted surfaces from physical damage. Modern PPF products like XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS have advanced far beyond the early clear bra films, offering self-healing topcoats, hydrophobic properties, and significantly improved optical clarity.
